Danzi, Franz

Danzi, Franz (1763–1826)

German cellist and composer. He was a minor member of the Mannheim school of symphonists. A pupil of Georg Vogler, he was a member of the court band in Mannheim and, from 1778, in Munich. He was Kapellmeister to the court of Württemberg in Stuttgart, and later in Karlsruhe.

Works

the operas Die Mitternachtsstunde (1788), Turandot (after Gozzi; 1817); church music; symphonies, concertos and concertantes; chamber music.
