Dapitan

City in Zamboanga del Norte province on the north coast of Mindanao Island in the Philippines; population (1995) 63,000. It is a port, with trade in coconuts, corn, rice, and cattle. Dapitan is one of the oldest settlements in the Philippines. Tourism is centred on nearby Dakak Bay.

The Philippine national hero José Rizal lived in exile in Dapitan 1892–96.
