Daqahliya

Governorate of northern Egypt, area 3,470 sq km/1,340 sq mi; population (1995 est) 4,226,000. The capital is El Mansûra. Daqahliya is one of the most fertile governorates in Egypt; the northern part is the major rice growing area of the country while the southern part mainly produces cotton.
