Daquin (or d'Aquin), Louis Claude (1694-1772)

French organist, harpsichordist, and composer. He studied under Louis Marchand and played before Louis XIV as a child prodigy at the age of six. At 12 he was appointed organist of Petit Saint-Antoine in Paris. In 1727 he was Jean-Philippe Rameau's successful rival for the post of organist at Saint-Paul, and in 1739 succeeded Jean Dandrieu at the Chapel Royal. He is especially remembered as one of the great French representatives of harpsichord music.
