Darbhanga

Town in Bihar state, northeast India, situated on the west bank of the Little Baghmati River, 125 km/78 mi northeast of Patna; population (1991) 218,300. It is a trading centre for local agricultural produce.

This was tragically demonstrated in Darbhanga and Chapra districts in July 1999, where twenty youths were killed by police firing on a stampede during an army recruitment drive.
