Dardanelles Commission

British Royal Commission appointed 1916 to enquire into the failure of the Dardanelles and Gallipoli expeditions in World War I.

The Commission's final report 1919 concluded that planning had been poor, difficulties under-estimated, delays by the government after the first attack had wasted precious time, that there had been insufficient artillery and ammunition, and that there had been personality clashes among the commanders. Various people were mildly censured, but no careers were effected.
