Darin, Bobby (1936-1973)

US popular singer and songwriter. His first hits in the late 1950s were sing-along teen love songs. In the 1960s he was a popular nightclub performer able to deliver such diverse styles as rhythm-and-blues, country-pop, and folk-rock with remarkable dexterity.

He was born in New York City. As a singer, his singles include ‘Splish Splash’ (1958), and ‘Dream Lover’ and ‘Queen of the Hop’ (both 1959). He won a Grammy in 1959 for writing the Frank Sinatra hit ‘Mack the Knife’.
