Darke County

County in west Ohio; area 1,554 sq km/600 sq mi; population (1990) 53,619. It is located on the Indiana border. Its administrative headquarters is Greenville, where there is some manufacturing. Largely rural, it is supported mainly by agriculture, including fruit, grain, livestock, tobacco, and tomato farming. Gravel and clay are among the region's natural resources.
