Dartmouth, George Legge, Baron Dartmouth (1648–1691)

English admiral. James II commanded him to prevent the landing of William (III) of Orange, but he took no action and later swore allegiance to William and Mary. In 1691 he was arrested for treason.

He was the eldest son of William Legge, Earl of Dartmouth (c. 1609–1672). He served in the English navy during the 2nd Anglo-Dutch War 1665–67, and held many offices and commands in the navy and army. He died in the Tower of London before his trial for treason.
