Darwin Initiative

    0.03 sec.

Darwin Initiative

UK government conservation initiative announced at the Earth Summit in 1992, pledging an annual budget of £10 million in grants to British researchers. This was reduced to £3 million in 1993.

Suggested projects include studying the effects of increased ultraviolet radiation on plankton, surveying wild relatives of crops in South America, and studying Arctic ecosystems subject to pollution. There is also a stress on collaborative projects in countries poor in resources but rich in biodiversity.
