Daubenton, Louis Jean Marie (1716–1799)

French naturalist. After assisting the naturalist Georges-Louis Buffon at the Jardin du Roi botanical gardens, he became curator and demonstrator in the Cabinet of Natural History, and helped Buffon compile the Histoire naturelle/Natural History (1749–67).

During the French Revolution he held the chairs of natural history and mineralogy.
