Davenport, Guy Mattison, Jr (1927- )

US writer, translator, and educator. A Harvard PhD, he joined the University of Kentucky English faculty in 1963. His erudite publications include essays, poetry, and experimental fiction, as well as translations of ancient Greek authors.

He was born in Anderson, South Carolina. His knowledge of Heraclitus, Menander, Sappho can be seen in the allusiveness of many of his texts.
