Davenport, Lindsay (1976– )| US tennis player. A tall, right-handed player, renowned for her powerful serving, she turned professional in 1993. She won the US Open singles title in 1998, and the Wimbledon singles title in 1999. In 2000 she took the Australian Open women's singles title, the third Grand Slam singles title of her career. Also a fine doubles player, she won the French Open women's doubles in 1996 with Mary Joe Fernandez, the US Open doubles in 1997 with Jana Novotna, and the Wimbledon doubles in 1999 with Corina Morariu. She has been ranked the world's number one player eight separate times throughout her career. |
