David, Johann Nepomuk

David, Johann Nepomuk (1895–1977)

Austrian composer. He was a choirboy at St Florian and studied at the Vienna Academy. He taught composition successively at Leipzig, Salzburg, and Stuttgart, and published analytical studies of classical composers.

Orchestral

eight symphonies (1936–65), two partitas for orchestra, two concertos for string orchestra; flute concertos, two violin concertos.

Vocal

Requiem chorale for soloists, chorus, and orchestra; chorale preludes.

Chamber

three string quartets, four string trios, and other chamber music; three cello sonatas.

Other

works for organ.
