Field, David Dudley (1805–1894)

US legal scholar A leading legal reformer, he chaired a New York State commission that wrote a Code of Civil Procedure which was adopted by other states and countries. His Outlines of an International Code (1872) was translated into several languages.

He was born in Haddam, Connecticut, the brother of Cyrus West Field and Stephen Johnson Field.
