Davidovsky, Mario (1934– )

American composer. He studied at Buenos Aires and moved to the USA in 1958; he worked at the electronic studios of Columbia and Princeton Universities, and was made a member of the Columbia faculty in 1981.

Works

four string quartets (1954, 1958, 1976, 1980), Planos for orchestra (1961), two Studies for electronics (1961–62), Contrasts for strings (1962), Inflexions for 14 instruments (1965), Chacona for piano trio (1972), Scenes from Shir Hashirim, cantata for four voices and chamber ensemble (1976); Synchronism series of eight dialogues for electronics (1963–74; no. 6 won the 1971 Pulitzer Prize); Divertimento for cello and orchestra (1984).
