Davidson, Donald

Davidson, Donald (1917– )

US philosopher. After gaining a Harvard PhD, he taught at various universities, before joining the University of California at Berkeley in 1981. In his influential publications he analysed the semantic structures of ordinary languages and made contributions to philosophy of mind.

He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. His academic posts prior to Berkley were at Queens College at the City University of New York, Stanford, Princeton, Rockefeller University, and the University of Chicago His best known work is Inquiries Into Truth and Interpretation (1983).
