Davies, Arthur

Davies, Arthur (1941– )

Welsh tenor. After studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, he sang with the Welsh National Opera from 1972, as Nadir, Nero, Lensky, Don José, Rodolfo, and Nemorino. He appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, from 1976, in the first performance of We Come to the River and as Alfredo, Steva (Jenůfa), Pinkerton, and Walton's Troilus (1995). His roles with the English National Opera Ensemble include the Duke of Mantua in Jonathan Miller's ‘mafia’ production of Rigoletto. He has also appeared in New York, Chicago, and Moscow.
