Davies, Laura (1963– )

English golfer. One of the longest hitters in the history of women's golf who in 1987 became the first British player to win the US Women's Open. She won the British Women's Open in 1986, the McDonalds LPGA Championship in 1994 and 1996, when she also won the Du Maurier Classic. In 1994 she became the first European to top the US LPGA Money List. She was the LPGA Player of the Year in 1996.

A member of the British Curtis Cup team in 1984, she turned professional in 1985, and finished her first professional season top of the European order of merit. She was a member of Europe's Solheim Cup team in 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2005. She was awarded a CBE in 1999.
