Davies, (Albert) Meredith (1922– )

English conductor and organist. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, graduating in 1938, and then at Keble College, Oxford, taking his Bachelor of Music in 1946. He took the post of organist at St Albans Cathedral in 1947 and moved to Hereford in 1949, also conducting at the Three Choirs Festival. From 1956 to 1959 he was organist of New College, Oxford. He has since conducted frequently in Britain and abroad. He was principal of Trinity College of Music, London, from 1979 and was awarded a CBE in 1982.
