Davis, Allison

Davis, Allison (1902–1983)

US cultural anthropologist. After gaining his PhD, he entered academia, becoming assistant professor of education at Chicago in 1942, where he spent the rest of his career. His eight scholarly works include Children of Bondage (1940) and Cultural Deprivation (1964).

Born in Washington, DC, he studied at Harvard, the London School of Economics, and the University of Chicago. He taught at Harvard and Dillard, as well as at Chicago.
