Davis, John (c. 1550-1605)

English navigator and explorer. He sailed in search of the Northwest Passage through the Canadian Arctic to the Pacific Ocean in 1585, and in 1587 sailed to Baffin Bay through the straits named after him. He was the first European to see the Falkland Islands, in 1592.
