Davy, Gloria (1931- )

American soprano. She studied at Juilliard and was the Countess in the first US performance of Strauss's Capriccio, in 1954. She sang in Europe from 1957 and was the soloist in the first performance of Henze's Nachtstücke und Arien at Donaueschingen, under Rosbaud. She made her debuts at the New York Metropolitan Opera House and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Aida (in 1958 and 1960, respectively). Other roles included Purcell's Dido, Gluck's Armide, and Santuzza.
