Dawson, Matt(hew James Sutherland) (1972– )| English rugby union player and his country's most capped scrum half. He rose to international prominence on the British Lions' victorious 1997 tour of South Africa, scoring two tries, including a brilliant solo effort in the first Test at Cape Town. Dawson made his full England debut in December 1995. He replaced the injured Martin Johnson as England captain during the 2000 Six Nations Championship and helped England to win the Grand Slam and the World Cup in 2003. He played the vast majority of his club rugby for Northampton and finished his career at Wasps before retiring from the sport in 2006. |
