Day, Clarence Shepard, Jr

    0.06 sec.

Day, Clarence Shepard, Jr (1874–1935)

US cartoonist and author. His autobiographical memoir Life with Father 1935 became a national best-seller, a long-running Broadway play from 1939, and a popular feature film 1947. Day's sequels to that work, Life with Mother 1937 and Father and I 1940, were published after his death.

Born in New York and educated at Yale, Day joined his father's Wall Street firm soon after graduation. Poor health forced his retirement from business at an early age, and he devoted himself to freelance cartooning and humour writing for a number of New York-based magazines.
