Day, William Rufus (1849-1923)

US diplomat and Supreme Court justice. As secretary of state under McKinley, he helped to negotiate peace in the Spanish-American War (1898). President Theodore Roosevelt called him to the US Supreme Court (1903-22).

He was born in Ravenna, Ohio.
