day trader

Stock trader who buys and sells a stock in the course of a single day. A day trader's stock strategy often involves holding large volumes of stock over small movements in price. Day traders are often private individuals who may trade on their own account from home, or with other day traders from a specially equipped day trading centre. The phenomenon of day trading gained popularity during the Internet bubble of the late 1990s but waned after the crash in technological stocks in 2000.
