Daytona Beach

City in Volusia County, northeast Florida, USA, on the Atlantic coast; population (2000 est) 64,100. It is a popular seaside resort noted for its hard, white-sand beach; economic activities include printing, commercial fishing, and the manufacture of electronic equipment and metal products. Daytona Beach was founded in 1870 and incorporated as a city in 1926.

Its hard white-sand beaches, 37 km/23 mi long and 150 m/500 ft wide at low tide, were the site of automobile trials that set many speed records from 1902 to 1935. The Daytona International Speedway (for motor racing) is located here, as are Bethune-Cookman College (1904) and Daytona Beach Community College (1958). A ballpark is among 23 entries on the national register of historic places.
