Deák, Ferenc (1803-1876)

Hungarian statesman. In 1860 he became leader of the Moderates, and drew up the address to the emperor Franz Joseph, demanding the restoration of the constitution of 1848 and an independent Hungarian ministry. The Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary, established in 1867, was largely the result of his policy.
