Crayer (or Craeyer), Gaspar de (1584-1669)

Flemish painter. He was greatly influenced by Peter Paul Rubens and painted many church altarpieces, among them The Assumption (Ghent Cathedral). He went to Madrid as painter to the court but settled afterwards in Ghent.

His chief works were altarpieces for various towns in the Netherlands, and include Christ Appearing to the Magdalen in the church of Notre Dame in Brussels.
