De La Tour, Frances (1944- )

English actor. A talented player with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) 1956-71, she drew popular acclaim as the lovelorn spinster, Miss Jones, in the television sitcom Rising Damp (1974-78), and in the film adaptation (1980). On stage, her performances in Duet for One (1980) and A Moon for the Misbegotten (1983) won her Society of West End Theatres awards.

De La Tour was born in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, and made her stage debut with the RSC's production of Timon of Athens (1965). Her television work includes A Kind of Living (1988), Every Silver Lining (1993), and Downwardly Mobile (1994).
