De Menil, Dominique (1908–1997)

French-born US art collector and philanthropist. The art she collected was mainly contemporary African art, surrealist work, and antiquities. With her husband, she established the De Menil Foundation in Houston. She was director of the Institute of Arts, Rice University, Houston.

She was born in Paris and gained a BA from the University of Paris, then studied mathematics and physics. An heir to the Schlumberger fortune, she emigrated to the USA in 1941.
