De Priest, James (1936– )| American conductor. He studied with Persichetti in Philadelphia and conducted there 1959–62. He was assistant conductor at the New York Philharmonic Orchestra 1965–66, and made his European debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969. He was associate conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, 1971–75, and musical director of L'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec 1976–83. He led the Oregon Symphony Orchestra at Portland from 1980, and the Malmo Symphony Orchestra from 1991. He has appeared as a guest conductor in the USA and Europe. |
