De Priest, James (1936- )

American conductor. He studied with Persichetti in Philadelphia and conducted there 1959-62. He was assistant conductor at the New York Philharmonic Orchestra 1965-66, and made his European debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969. He was associate conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, 1971-75, and musical director of L'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec 1976-83. He led the Oregon Symphony Orchestra at Portland from 1980, and the Malmo Symphony Orchestra from 1991. He has appeared as a guest conductor in the USA and Europe.
