De Vries, Adriaen (c. 1545-1626)

Dutch sculptor. He was a pupil of Giambologna in Florence, Italy. Most of his work was executed in Augsburg, where he designed a series of fountains, and in Prague, at the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II. For the emperor he produced two heroic busts, as well as mythological group statues, including Mercury and Psyche (1593, Louvre, Paris), and allegorical bronze reliefs, for example Rudolf II as Patron of the Arts (1609, Windsor Castle, England).
