De Kalb County

County in northwest Georgia; area 699 km/270 sq mi; population (1990) 545,800. Its administrative headquarters is Decatur. The county contains Stone Mountain and many of the city of Atlanta's eastern residential and industrial suburbs.

De Kalb County

County in north-central Illinois; area 1,642 sq km/634 sq mi; population (1990) 77,900. Its administrative headquarters is Sycamore. Most of the county is agricultural, raising sweet corn and poultry. There is manufacturing at De Kalb and Sycamore. The south branch of the Kishwaukee River flows through De Kalb. Shabbona Lake State Park is in the southwest of the county.
