    0.28 sec.

DeMar, Clarence Harrison (1888-1958)

US marathon runner. He won the Boston marathon seven times, was placed second three times, and third twice. He won the bronze medal in the 1924 Olympic marathon. His successes earned him the nickname ‘Mr Marathon’.

He was born in Madeira, Ohio. He continued to run the Boston marathon until the end of his life. At a time when only a relatively small, elite group was regarded as fit to take part in the race, he was seen as something of a physical phenomenon.
