DePree, Max Owen (1924– )

US furniture manufacturing company executive. He went to work at his father's Michigan company, which produced furniture by renowned designers like Charles Eames. As chairman, he increased sales dramatically through his distinctively worker-friendly management style.

Born in Zeeland, Michigan, he dropped out of college to join the Army Medical Corps. His father's company, Herman Miller, was named after his mother's father. His book, Leadership is An Art (1989), has been reprinted in ten languages.
