DeVries, Peter (1910-1993)

US editor and writer. After a varied early career, he became editor of Poetry, then joined the New Yorker editorial board as a protégé of James Thurber. His works include Tunnel of Love (1954), Reuben, Reuben (1964), and Consenting Adults (1980).

He was born in Chicago. He wrote some two dozen witty novels known for their relentless puns and sophisticated satire of suburban life.
