Temporary rally in a stock market after a fall. The recovery is usually technical in nature, the result of dealers buying stock they had sold short, and not usually an indication of a change in the downward trend.

US futures are up 74 points -- which has helped shares across Europe -- although after yesterday's sharp drop in the States, it looks a lot like a dead cat bounce.
Traders expect the market to recover today but reckon it'll only be a dead cat bounce with the market continuing to slide.
