Deane, Richard (1610-1653)

English Parliamentary commander, admiral, and general at sea. He fought with the Parliamentary army during the Civil War in Cornwall and at the battles of Naseby, Preston, and Worcester. He was one of the commissioners for the trial of King Charles I and signed the death warrant.

In 1653 he was appointed joint commander with Robert Blake and George Monck during the naval war with the Netherlands, and lost his life at the first battle off the northern Foreland, Kent.
