Dearborn, Henry (1751-1829)

US soldier. A Revolutionary War veteran, he served as secretary of war under Jefferson (1801-09). Assigned command of the critical northeast theatre at the outbreak of the War of 1812, his complete incompetence led to his removed in July 1813.

He was born in Hampton, New Hampshire.
