Deauville

Holiday resort of Normandy in the Calvados département of France, on the English Channel and at the mouth of the River Touques south of the Seine estuary; population (1990) 4,800. It is the more fashionable neighbour of Trouville, to which it is linked by a bridge over the river.

It is called la plage fleurie (‘the floral beach’), and is known for its horse racing, casino, and 3 km/1.8 mi-long beach and boardwalk – the Promenade des Planches. There are 800 berths for yachts and other boats along 4,000 m/13,120 ft of quays.
