Debeney, Marie-Eugene (1864-1943)

French general in World War I. He defended Amiens March-April 1918, captured Montdidier, and then advanced to the River Somme August 1918. He was appointed commandant of St Cyr military academy June 1919.

After education at St Cyr, he entered the army as a lieutenant of Chasseurs 1886. In 1914 he was sub-Chief of Staff of the 1st French Army. He subsequently commanded the 33rd and 32nd Corps and the 7th Army 1916, and was appointed to command the 1st Army December 1917.
