Decker, Franz-Paul

Decker, Franz-Paul (1922– )

German conductor. He studied with Jarnach in Cologne and was director of the Wiesbaden Opera 1950–53; he led at Bochum 1956–64, and at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra 1962–68. He was musical director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra 1967–75, and of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra from 1986. He was chief conductor of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 1990, and principal guest of the Orchestra of the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, in 1991.
