Deer Park

Residential community in Babylon town, Suffolk County, on central Long Island, southeast New York; population (1990) 28,800. There is some light industry.

Deer Park

Town in Harris County, southeast Texas; population (1990) 27,700. It is located on the south side of the Houston Ship Channel (Buffalo Bayou), 24 km/15 mi east-southeast of Houston city centre, and to the southwest of San Jacinto. It is a largely industrial suburb of Houston that grew quickly in the 1960s and 1970s. Refrigerators, plastics, and chemicals are manufactured here, and there are shipping-related industries.

Deer Park

Buddhist site at Sarnath, near Benares, India, where the Buddha gave his first sermon under a bodhi tree. It used to have a large monastic complex, a centre of the arts, religion, and learning, but this was destroyed in AD 1194. The Deer Park is still a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists.
