Dehra Dun

City in Uttarakhand, India; population (2001) 447,800. It is the capital of Dehra Dun district. It has a military academy and a forest research institute. It was founded in the 17th century by the Sikh Guru Ram Rai, and has a Sikh temple built in 1699.
