Delavrancea, Barbu (1858-1918)

Romanian writer and dramatist. His short stories, collected in Sultǎnica (1885) and Paraziţii/Parasites (1893), reflect contemporary Romanian society, which he regarded as decadent and parasitic. His best-known work, the novel Hagi Tudosi (1903), depicts the moral degeneration of a miser. His dramas are based on Romanian history.
