Dell, Edmund (1921–1999)

British Labour politician. Between 1966 and 1970 he was successively parliamentary under-secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, minister of state at the Board of Trade, and minister of state at the Department of Employment and Productivity. He was chair of the Public Accounts Committee 1973–74, paymaster-general 1974–76, secretary of state for Trade 1976–79, and founder chairman of Channel 4 television 1980–87.

He was educated at Owen's School, London and Queen's College, Oxford. After war service he became a lecturer in modern history at Queen's College, Oxford and then an executive with Imperial Chemical Industries. In 1964 he was elected Labour MP for Birkenhead.
