Delray Beach

City in Palm Beach County, southeast Florida, on the Atlantic Ocean, 40 km/25 mi north of Fort Lauderdale; population (1990) 47,200. Essentially a resort and residential community, it has some business and light industry. It is also a centre for citrus, vegetable, chrysanthemum, and gladiolus production.

Delray Beach was laid out in 1896 and incorporated as a city in 1927. The Morikami Museum reflects the traditions of the many Japanese who settled in the area early in the 20th century. The Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is to the west of the city.
