Demon, The

Opera by Arthur Rubinstein (libretto, in Russian, by P A Viskovatov, based on Mikhail Lermontov's poem), first produced in St Petersburg, Russia, on 25 January 1875. It was revived in Wexford, Ireland, in 1994. The story tells how the demon kills Tamara's lover but she is rescued by an angel.
